there were some very interesting points
raised in the ongoing flurry of discussions on avadhanams.
pamidighantam sudhakar gari post makes a very interesting
proposal - what if we have two avadhanis performing simultaneously,
to the same set of questions. it can give rise to a very healthy
competition, and surely would rise the interest and excitement
to a higher level. were any such avadhanams attempted before?
every one who heard about the Satavadhanam from me asked the
same question - "Isn't ashTaavadhAnam supposedly more difficult
than a SatAvadhAnam?". i am stunned by the sheer number of people
who rise the same question. finally, i got a clue from Sastry
isukapalli's post. seems like such a statement was made in one of
the telugu text books at school. i do remember that there was a
lesson on tirupati vEnkaTa kavulu, but i don't remember reading this
remark. however, what would have been the basis of such an argument?
it clearly seems to me that "dhArana" would be that much more difficult
in a SatAvadhAnam. given that, how is the above remark justified?
there was a post on scit(from an anonymous poster, i think) which
discussed the creativity of avadhanis. one interesting point that was
raised was that avadhanis rarely chose a samakAlikamaina canvas to
paint their thoughts. unless specifically asked by the questioner, they
chose ramayana/bharata/bhagatava itivRttam. vAsu gAru replied to that
saying classical chandObhadda poetry has failed in the past as a medium
for contemporary issues! and hence avdhanis sticking to their niche.
my immediate reaction to that statement was to think of none other than
"navayuga kavi cakravarti" gurram jAshuvA's works. didn't he succesfully
discuss contemperanoeus issues in classical meters.
MNPSs SataavadhAnam was indeed a treat. however, i really missed
nishiddakshari. the duel in this item is like a chess match, and in
SatAvadhAnam, it would compare to playing chess with more than one
player at the same time. a real difficult item for the avadhani.
