Let me add my voice also to the chorus. Naga Phani Sarma is indeed a
gem. I am one of those who believe that Chandassu is not a necessary
or a sufficient condition for rhythm and rhyme in poetry. Even for
me this was a great experience. He has an excellent voice and
performed the avadhAnam with surprising ease. Whichever side
you lean on, chando or nan-chando avadhAnam is certainly
a great experience.

Actually I have a complaint on the organizers. All the questions
were selected by the organizers rather than the pRichchaka. This took
away the fun of being a pRichchaka. It is one thing to have a buffer
of questions for those who don't want to write their own questions.
It is something else to dictate all the questions reducing the
show to organizers vs avadhAni as opposed to pRichchakas vs
avadhani. Some pRichchakas like Ramabhadra Dokka have tossed
aside the question they were assigned and came up with questions
that appealed to them.
I should quickly hasten add to add that I found the oraganization
the event excellent. I know that it is not easy to get hundred
(actually 108) pRichchakas even for a crowded place like New York
area. It was very refreshing to see event starting on time and
proceeding with minimum delay of time.
Apart from avadhAnam itself it was nice to have face-to-face
conversation with several telusa celebreties like Pillamarri
Ramakrishna garu and Aravinda, Dokka Rambhadra and Srinivas,
Prbahakar Vissavajhjhala, Nagulapalli Srinivas. There were
others old friends like D. Sreenivasa Rao and Rama Kanneganti
and Kumar Vadaparty.
It was interesting when avadhAni went into a short discourse
on "kAvya kanya evarini varistundi?"
vyAkaranam tandritO samAnam --> gauravinvhEdE tappa
varinchadaggadi kAdu
meemamsa napumskiDitoe samAnam --> doesn't need any
explanation!
I confess lack of memory here. Does anybody remember it
better? Or does anybody know the original in Sanskrit?
