A child, Karri Sanjeeva Rao, born in yaanam in 1956,
as a token-expression of love and gratitude to the man
that brought him up during the years his father was
earning a living in Bombay, assumes his guardian's name and
becomes SikhaaMani.
SikhaamaNi is among the first of the young poets
that appeared on the literary scene during the mid 80s.
He studied MA telugu in Andhraa Univ. and went on to
do a doctoral theses on paThhabi's literature.
(paThaabi of 'pun'caangam and fiDaelu raagala dozen).
Maybe we must now say Dr SikhaamaNi.
As far as i know he is in the telugu university.
His first published collection of poems,
muvvala caetikaara (1987), is remembered,
among other things, for the beautiful
introductions by Attaloori Narasimha Rao,
Ismail and vaegunTa mohana prasad, say 'moe'.
He later published another mineekavitaa sampuTi
titled 'hoerugaali' which was a disappointment.

Let me pontificate :
I read the poem in the weekly jyoti and it moved me so much that
i could not say a thing that night or eat a grain. Also i know
many people wept when the poet recited this poem!
So all you guys who know only how to sneer at asocial poets
and snarl with colored-cliches like "green writing",
should learn a thing.
Everyday you
Look at a good picture.
Read a good poem.
And if possible, speak a few reasonable words!!
Today I help you do the second.
I trust you help yourself do the third!!
