Rukmini Kalyanam is a ballet choreographed in the classical Kuchipudi dance
tradition. It was first presented to Atlanta in 1984 by Sri Vempati Chinna
Satyam and his group from Madras, India and received rave reviews. This year's
production is under the direction of Smt. Sasikala, who is a world renowned
Kuchipudi artist and a student of Dr. Satyam. The ballet is presented by her
students, with Sasikala playing the title role of Rukmini. You will be kept
spellbound by the music, dance, costumes and the beauty and grace of the
overall production. Many of you have already seen Smt. Sasikala's other
production, Chandalika, and you agree that she is that rare and talented
artist and teacher who continuously works to uphold a unique dance tradition
of India and inspires her students to excel.
All contributions to the Scholarship Fund are tax deductible. There are no
overhead expenses and all income is placed into the Scholarship Fund account.
The activities of the fund are educational and include the annual graduate

and 'VIDYA', a summary newsletter containing educational and financial aid
information useful for Indian American students, that is continuously updated.

P.S. : What does it have to do with 'telusA' ?? I'd like to invite everyone
interested to discuss the 'sAhityam' aspects in these traditional
dance dramas - I'll cover a review of 'CanDAlika', a dance drama
originally written by SrI rabIndranAth TAgOr (presented recently in
Atlanta as a fund raiser for Indian kAshmiris' relief) focussing on
the literary works of SrI Bujanga rAya Sarma, a well known kUcipUDi
vAggEyakAra, who translated this beautiful master piece into telugu.
