1. Storm batters Konaseema-400 perishm thousands rendered homeless

A severe cyclonic storm, described as a hurrican, swept across
Konaseema region encompassing East Godavari and West Godavari
districts in coastal Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours killing
more than 400 people and destroying a lot of public and private
properties.

According to unofficial estimates, as many as 253 people dies in
East Godavari district with nine being reported from Kakinada
division, while West Godavari accounted for 58 deaths and Khammam
one. However, the official sources put the toll at 205.

2. Babu fears toll may cross 2000

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu who undertook an aerial
survey of the cyclone affected areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh, tonight
sent an SOS to prime ministet HD Deve Gowda, urging him to provide maximum
possible assistance to the State to take up rescue and relief operations.

Mr Naidu said, though the preliminary report put toll at 400, it might
cross 2000, adding that more than 10000 people had been affected and
hundreds suffered serious injuries when the roofs of their houses
collapsed.
7. Storm weakens - Visakhapatnam

The cyclonic storm has moved west north westwards, weakened and lay as a
depression close to Nalgonda. It is likely to move west-north westwards
and gradually weaken, according to the cycline warning centre here at
Vizag.
