I remember it as the story of two women... not men.   I didn't recollect when 
you first said marichika.  After reading your 
description I now recollect the novel. I remember, I read this
novel from our Loyola college library in Vijayawada.  I now wonder
how this was available in college library if it is banned.  I guess
the ban was only for a shortwhile.   If I am not wrong, the whole 
story of the ban (how and why it was imposed) also is there in the
appendix of the very same book. 
These are my vague memories....   I may be wrong completely.
