Thanks for posting a small review of the book, Jampala garu.
A Police Constable's life is really horrible.
Several years back, I happened to chat with a police constable
at Osmania University campus.
He said, he was brought here from his native coastral district
to serve a supposedly 15 days bundobust duty.
Six months nearing, his superior are not telling when he would
be sent back.
With tears, he told me, that he left his pregnant wife at home
and he was feling desparate.
There were some garage like structures near the B hostels where
he shares one of the open hals with three other constables.
"Once in 10 or 15 days they pay us pitience called 'bEta' to
buy food and other necessities. We are almost eating grass!"
he said with bitterness in his tone.
Because they have no postal address, his family writes letters
to the official address provided and the officials bring these
letters sometimes even 15 to 20 days after receiving them.
He said, "Our officers look at us as if we are asses. They are also turning
us into petty theives."
I do not remember the the exact words he used. But I remember most of
what he siad.
