In memorium:
PadmaSree S.K. Naajar
(part-II of II)
Two years ago, I came across a videotape of burrakathas by
naazar's sons bhaanoojee and baapoojee. This tape carried a
few minutes of conversation /speech by naajar. He was clearly
an old man, but still emotionally involved with his art.
During that speech, he mentioned about the songs he wrote for his
burrakathas, especially his very famous 'ennaaLLee kaapuraalu?'
(naajar wrote many of his burrakathas himself; he supposedly
studied several versions of palnaaTi veerakatha to come up with
his version that the common people can understand and relate to).
Naajar said, "nEnu naa anubhavaalnE paaTalugaa raasukunnaanu.
nEnu ee paaTa paaDinappuDu vintunnavaaLLalO anEkulu aa anubhavaalu
vaarivigooDaa kaabaTTi chalincaaru, naa paaTalani aadarinchaaru".
Here is an excerpt from the song enaaLLee kaapuraalu. (I should
be excused in that I do not know the raagam or chandassu for
this song, though I can tell you that this song uses simple
words with a power that moves me everytime I hear it / read it).
This lament, relates to the poet/singer's own experiences.
