While I don't know the answer to your question, your post reminds me
of something I read about Pampa. Pampa Kavi wrote Maha Bharatam
and Ramayanam in Kannada from Vemulawada. How many times have I passed
through without realizing that this town had so much
history. Karimnagar was under Western Chalukyas those days. It is
difficult for me to imagine Kannada being official language in
Karimnagar. Perhaps in another fifty years, it will be difficult to
imagine that Urdu was the official language a hundred years ago.
Anyway, coming back to the point is Pampa Ramayanam a modern
translation or did sopmebody translate it as Padya Kavyam?
