Since the time mahaa_prasthaanam poems began to circulate,
SreeSree is being criticized. SreeSree was criticized when abhyudaya
rachayitala sangham was formed. SreeSree was severely attacked during the
1955 assembly elections (This was a landmark election in AP.
Andhraprabha and Andhrapatrika mounted a major attack on the communist
party and on SreeSree). SreeSree was attacked when viplava rachayitala
sangham was formed. What is new about SreeSree being criticized?
I have seen a couple of pieces in aandhra_prabha weekly. Nothing
new. The criticisms over the years generally fall into these categories
(And we have seen most of them in this forum in the last three weeks too):
1) SreeSree's poetry is not poetry
2) SreeSree's poetry started a bad trend in Telugu
3) SreeSree's influence on Telugu poetry is overrated
4) There are better poets than SreeSree (Or ...... is a better poet
than SreeSree)
5) SreeSree is responsible for all the supposed evils of communism.
(Or SreeSree is responsible for the poularity of communism in AP)
6) SreeSree owes his popularity to communism
7) SreeSree misrepresented communism
8) SreeSree copied a lot from ......
9) SreeSree prostituted himself by writing for movies
10) SreeSree is a man of poor morals
13 years after his death, the old song continues.
I am reminded of what indraganTi Sreekaanta Sarma once
said, "...SreeSree gaarini eppuDevaru debba teeddaamani prayatnincinaa
vaaLLE debba tinnaarani naaku baagaa telusu. aayanni debba
teesukOvaDaaniki aayanE chaalu."
