Exhortation.

Dear fellow-netters:

I spent the whole night thinking about if I possibily would have hurt anyone
with my postings, and talked to a couple on phone to get some understanding
of if I messed up. I think, indeed I did as the following fellow-netter
seems to suggest:

CJAMPALA@desire.wright.edu writes
>
>"Guys, I don't like you arguing about dead poets or putting down live ones.
>There are some great projects out there waiting to be done. Shut the
>hell up and go do them or something else that is of use!"

> There are some assumptions at work in such exhortations: 1) that
>the persons arguing are doing it for the sheer fun of it and for wasting
>the time of the likes of Sri Kumar; 2) The kibbitzers and kvetches (did I
>get the word right, Rama?) don't do much that is socially useful other
>than kibbitz and kvetch; and 3) If they stop kibbitzing and kvetching,
>they will then engage in doing something useful.

And so on.

I simply have to say this: never in the history of telugus have there been
occassions as opportunity-full for productivity as the current ones are
(SCIT, TELUSUA, SCI, etc.), and perhaps never in the history also was the
case that such a gallary of intelligent people got together to discuss
(however, virtually/electronically it may be) topics. However, my experience
with SCI, SCIT (and TELUSA thus far) is that we tend to discuss well,
but do not contribute to making an impression/leaving something for the
posterity so that people know of us by our contemporary work.

And, this is not
because we are less intelligent than some of the great people of the past
(in particular people of the caliber of those whom I am asking for lasting
contributions: rama, palana, ramana, veluri and perhaps others).
These are really smart people (unlike me) and can do things of lasting
value. I was exhorting with a friendly intention, not POLITICAL/MALICIOUS.
Indeed some of these fellows did "rit/lekha".

I was looking in
the context/direction of making our presence felt by the rest of the world
in the way of publishing abot Telugu history/what-have-you
so that we become people of some record. India will then not be synonymous
to snake-charmers and tajmahal.

Can't we make contributions of the kind: Munshi's history of India project?
I think we can if not individually, perhaps collectively.

Please read any contemporary history book of the world and see how much of
it is catered to us (Indians, Telugus, or any other subcommunity you wish).
Not much. WHY? Are we so untalented? I don't think so.

I hate to see such an opportunity not fully exploited. I did not intend
to say that we should shut up here, but simply that we should ALSO contribute
to things of some lasting value. I suggested a few ideas, but not as if they
were written on stone and signed in blood. You can pick your own, and I may
contribute to them myself (if I can ).

I do not intend to say we should SHUT UP and DO. But, only that we should
ALSO do something besides discussing. I don't know why the other netter
got that impression.......

Anyway, it has been not a productive, encouraging day for me, and for you
as well. Sorry for being the source!

Have a good day!

yours truly,

Kumar.
