4578: 25 Mar 96 telusa Error Condition Re: Notification
to all the "owners" of the group.
This happens whenever a mail originally addressed to TELUSA-SCIT is
being replied to, and the writer now chooses to copy it to TELUSA,
or in response to a question from the mailing program "do you want to
reply to all (or some variation of it)", responds with a YES.
This results in the same message being sent (or attempted) to TELUSA,
twice, once on its own, and once as part of the TELUSA-SCIT alliance.
However, the listserve (or its cousin) is smart enough to see that,
and intercepts the duplicate mailing. BUT, it flags it as an error,
and sends such notification, along with the entire post, to the
so-called owners. So, for every such attempt, three copies get fired off
to the three owners. It is upto them to look and it decide to do
nothing, something, and at the least, delete the message.
Please, PLEASE, have this in mind when replying to messages.
An example is shown below (just a segment from it):
cc: Multiple recipients of list <telusa@cs.wisc.edu>,
*Will post to SCIT also* <telusa-scit@smartcad4.me.wisc.edu>
