I read articles on SCI, where D.D. Kosambi was referred to as a
Marxist Historian (whatever that means!). Yes, he appears to have
critically studied the Indian history and attempted to present an
"unprejudiced" version. In my limited observation, I found that he
is often quoted as an authority on Indian history. But like many
earlier historians, he appeared to have accepted Aryan Invasion Theory
(AIT) and described Aryans who ravaged the harappan civilisation as
barbarians. We now know that AIT is seriously being questioned, for
the lack of evidence of any conquest in Indus valley.
Just to make a this post relevent to telugu and telusa, let me pose
few questions: what are the books on telugu/Andhra history that are
considered as scientific and authoritative ? Who wrote them ? Are
they originally written in Telugu ? I know that Adavi Bapiraju,
Nori and Viswanatha (also, Mudigonda Sivaprasad, now) have written
fiction based on the history. Also, could anyone talk on how many
of these novels have a historical base that can stand to scientific
scrutiny ? chilakapATi jagadIsh, are you still subscribed to this list ?
Regards,
Suresh.
