The economic system of Communism ignored a basic
premise and consequently collapsed. People are
propelled by personal gain. Central-command
economies/governments cannot decide what is good
for the people.
Now, coming to ko.ku. et. al. Ramana wonders why
the demise of communism hasn't made their writings
irrelevant.
Economic systems may collapse, but people will
survive and invent new systems. (Remember the
depression days in a capitalistic country like
USA.)
As long as people are there, disparities will be
there. I think koku et.al. shared a deeper concern
for the well-being of common man, who had no
power/influence. This concern will be alive as
long as there are disparities. Thats why whoever
cares for people will always be relevant to
people. Others wont be.
Take Tilak. I found that he is liked by people of
all ideologies. I dont remember the piece, but he
says somewhere that "ism"s are not important, what
matters is concern for human beings.

P.S. Communism is just one socialogical thought,
there are many schools of thought which try to
explain the social behaviour.
