couple of points i wanted to address:
nijamE! amdaru avadhAnulu goppa kavulu kAru,
alAgE prati kavI avadhAni kAlEDu. evari goppatanam
vAridE. there may be a few who can combine the two in
style. still, as sadanda gAru said "apples are apples
and oranges r oranges". its true that as one watches
more and more avadhanams, the "awe" it carries slowly
dies out. i do not enjoy most avadhanams as half the time,
i am groping in dark trying to understand the pUraNalu.
its like a chess match between two grandmasters.
unless, an equally capable GM explains each step,
the reasons behind it and the brilliance involved,
the uninitiated like me will always find it as
"nArikELa pAkam". hope, in future, avadhanams
will have a separate commentary room!!!(asking for
too much i guess).
coming to the "oft-debated" points of chamdOBaddha
kavitvamu - laya, prAsa, yati, bhAvam ityAdi...
i always thought that the only requirement
for a "manci kavita" is its ability to
provide "rasAnubhUti" to the reader.
yatiprAsalu, SabdAlamkArAlu and all other
metrical tools are just some tools which
experience has provided us to achieve this
goal. these rules are just the "mArganirdESakulu"
for budding poets. for a capable poet, these
no longer hold significance, for, he can achieve
his goals even without the help of these tools.
mari komtamandiki, ivi pratibhandakAlayitE?
true, bhAvam lEni kavita vyardhamu. even
if all the metrical rules are followed, if
bhAva soundaryam is missing, then its a
wasted effort. if "chandhamu" becomes a
pratibhandakamu for the less gifted in their
expression, why not go ahead rather than
getting bogged down?
the last point i wished to consider:
aaduhnikAmdhra kavitvamanTE EmiTi?
Edi sAmpradAyamu, Edi prayOgamu?
these questions have all been
answered in si.nA.rE's Ph.D. thesis
with the title, aaduhnikAmdhra kavitvamu:
sAmpradAyamulu, prayOgamulu.
its available in print and should make excellent reading for
interested telusa-ers.
