>If I may speculate on VCJ's critique of avadhaanaalu, I suggest that
>an avadhaanam is very much like a men's gymnastics display. The emphasis
>is on power and strength, less on beauty and grace. In women's gymnastics,
>there is more emphasis (in terms of scoring) on grace, artistry etc.

I have a couple of questions:
(1) Are (were) there any lady avadha'nis (avadhanamma)?
(2) Is this avadhanam a male art?
(3) Is this word "avadha'ni" identifying a male dha'ni only?
If so, what is the word for lady avadha'ni?

Probably the lady avadha'nis are more artistic in performing the
avadha'nams!

(4) Are n't the avadha'nis very handsome?
(5) What grace got to do with avadha'nams? (Who knows?)

>I can see it now. Little 4 and 5-year olds will be pressured by stage moms
>and dads into attending the Medasani avadhanam academy in addition to regular
>classes, complaints of burnout at 17, charges of neurological damage,
>cries of "is it all worth it?" while the TV networks gleefully rake
>in the bucks. :-)

va're va'h! Bapa Rao ga'ru! Please keep this thought here.
If you tell this in my neighborhood Telugu community, this could happen
here. My boys already are singing Jyothi Lakshmi songs (lE lE lE na'ra'ja!
lEvamamTa'va) as a token for keeping up Telugu culture. Once they get
enrolled in the MAA (Medasani Avadhanam Academy), they will start doing
homework, school projects, reports, boy scout advancements, selling stuff
for the scools (6 times a semester), keeping the house clean, appearing at
SAT, MCAT, GMAT and keeping my vallet empty according to the MAA guidelines-
already they think that they have the best memory possible and don't keep
track of anything. Once they get the MAA diploma, they forget everything!
There will be a great demand for this kind of avadha'nam training right here
in Lumbus. Nagamani will stand in the line for a couple of seats two days
in advance to get my boys enrolled in the MAA. Right now I don't have time
to take a few min rest in my daylight life. Once the boys join the MAA,
I should live in an RV! What a life! Go an extra mile and half to preserve
our culturamDii! unna Tennis, Nintendo, CD games are n't enoughA!
