bachOTi Sridhara raavu gaaru wrote the neo-laakshaNika grandha. It
illustrates his views of the non-chando poetry supporters clearly. Only he
can tell us if he meant to be offensive or not. I, for one, think that
this post does not go with his recent staking the moral high ground in
these discussions.

But the fact remains that the lakshaNa Saastras for most of today's poets
are not the same as the old ones (like the one quoted in this forum
sometime ago to prove why SreeSree does not deserve to be called a
mahaakavi). For many poets of the last 60 years, SreeSree himself has
been the modern laakshaNika: many of the verses in mahaaprasthaanam,
particularly 'navakavita', 'RUkkulu' 'pratiJna', 'nEnu saitam', and
'kavitaa O kavitaa' define the new lakshaNas. These new lakshaNas have
been further modified by several new generations of poets. digambara
kavulu, viplavakavulu, kavisEna, the editors of neelimEghaalu and
chikkanavvutunna paaTa; each of them have defined new lakshaNas that they
use to write and evaluate poetry.

Yes, the lakshaNa Sastra keeps changing and there will forever be new
lakshaNa grandhaas. Those that want to adhere to danDin are welcome to do
so. Our rule books are different; if somebody wants to deride them, it is
their privilege. If somebody wants to discuss the new lakshaNas, they
would be welcome too.
