Its just missing me. I knew it definetely before. This person hails from
gOdaavari-s (or from Vizag area?). Is it "baapu"? I am n't sure. I was
about to say "aarudra", but he is related to Sree^2, not bucchibaabu.

I am sorry. I don't have the exact title off-hand.

The real inspiration for the film however came to BN when he visited Hampi,
while shooting his first film vandEmaataram in '39. And ever since he had
planned to make a film on Vijayanagara empire and kRshNadEva raaya. Also, he
knew dEvulapalli since long, but it took nearly a decade to have him working
for him. Before, he asked him to write for "vipranaaraayaNa" and dEvulapalli
took a lot of time and paper just describing vipranaarayaNa's garden. Many
other projects also did n't take off. Anyhow, bucchibaabu's story/play is not
the 'only' source for the film, but also a story published in _The
Illustrated Weekly of India_. I would like to know more about it.

To those bucchibaabu fans: most of his stories were published in 3 Vols
by Pallavi Publications, VZA in 1994 and IMHO its a good buy.

raamineeDu means, mallaadi raamakRshNaSaastri's lyrics in "jaaNu telugu".
Recall those numbers in "kalimilEmulu" (esp. kommala meeda kOti gummacchu
laaDindi .... IMO very few songs come close in "telugutanam" to that.),
"maa yinTi mahaalakshmi", from the same trio: raamineeDu, mallaadi,
aSwatthaama.

Is it "autobiographical" ? Its more his father, the famous, tripuranEni
raamaswaami chaudari's story, I thought. He is certainly one author who
influenced me quite a lot. BTW, a year or so ago Mr. kaaTragaDDa (?)
translated two of his stories. I really enjoyed them. Is he still around?
How about translating more?

Yes, he was closely associated with film industry and even directed two
films; lakshmamma (1950, SObhanaachala,*ing: Ch. naaraayaNa raavu,
kRshNavENi, MD: ghanTasaala) and pEranTaalu (1951). Is there one more? 'll
check up. As Gudavalli Ramabrahmam's follower and later associate he worked
for "raitubiDDa" as story writer. He was later to get the directorial
assignment for saarathi's "gRhapravESam" (1946) with strong reformist
ideology (in this film and also in the afore mentioned two films he addresses
the ill-treatment of women in the society.), but decides to drop out, thus
giving the big-break to actor/director L V Prasad, who never looked back (and
always acknowledged that: gOpeechand gaari puNyamaa anToo Director ni
ayyaanu.). The film lakshmamma was made in competition with pratibha's
"Sree lakshamma katha" (1950, ANR, anjali MD: CR subburaaman). pratibha's
version was a winner in commercial terms, where as Gopichand's won critics
acclaims.

[Note: I take this oppurtunity to make a small correction. Long ago I wrote
on SCIT that the film (with those wonderful lyrics and music by "rajani")
"maanavati" (1952) was directed by Gopichand. Its wrong. The director was
Y V Rao.]

Its veerEndranaath. Where is the defacto president of "veerEndranaath's fans
assn. on SCIT" :-) ? The MD is vijayaraaghavaraavu, a native of Eluru, and
better known in Hindustani classical music circles.

[On A R Krishna other time.]

I am guessing. To avoid the ban he had to choose other title. Its long back I
read the novel. The main character's name goes like "sangaDu ..."?
