ataDu-aamE is written as a series of alternating soliloquies
(swagtaalu) of a husband and wife living in Madras during the early
part of the century. The husband is a successful materialistic lawyer
and the wife is an independent, spirited woman interested in the welfare
of the world. The independence movement forms the background for this novel.

Several years after the original book was published, aandhra
jyOti weekly carried parts 2 and 3 of ataDu-aame, with a different couple
-the female being the daughter of the first couple. Thes parts have the
peri-independence period and the early days of indian communist movement
    as the backdrop.

This series of novels should be included in anybody's list of modern
Telugu claasics. Written in a simple style, the book captures the
contradictions of the main characters and the times they lived in. Olga
published a critique of this series under the title, ataDu-aame-manam.
All these books, I think, are published by viSaalaandhra.

For those interested to learn more about AndhrapradEsh in the
early part of this century, the ataDu-aame series and laxmaNa raavug aari
autobiography - 'bratuku pustakam' are must reads.
