True - one way to look at it is a + tidhi - tidhi means the date.  Hence
atidhi would imply that the one without a date ( a blind date!) - both from
his point and from the host point.  It is not necessorily for food. atidhi
is the one who found himself in need of help - a shelter - food - or
anything in needed imposed by the circumstances.  Hence atidhi devo bhava -
It is our culture to treat such a one who is in need of help with respect,
kindness and consideration as if he is equal to God, to be treated in just
the same way when we are in such a need!
