My understanding is that is that the equivalent of nuvvu/meeru in
English used to be thou/you. Gradually thou got dropped.

Funny that Hindi has three forms of you tu/tum/aap.

Where does 'tamaru' fit in nuvvu/meeru. Should I say it is 
nuvvu/tamaru/meeru?
