Dear Raogaru,
"kaLidAsu kavitvaM koMta, nA paityaM koMta" ani meeru vinE vuMTAru.
"ashTha pativratalu" anaDaM khaccitaMgA nA paityamE :-)
But, I have a reason for it :
aa aiduguroo pativratalE ayitE, asalu tallulu muggurunnAru, "parvati,
sarasvati, lakshmi" - veeLLu pativratalu ani padmapurANaMlO vuMdi. It says
that they are the most obedient ones to their husbands, and ideal for every
woman in the world! I thought of including them in pativratas. There is
no reason to exclude anyone, if that matters!
ammalu mugguroo "mEmu pativratalamu kAmA!" ani question cEstArEmOnanE
saMdEhaMtO vALLani kalipiceppEsAnu. I am aware that S.Andhara nighaMTuvu
lists only five.
Regards
Madhava

Not that it matters much as to how many pativrataas are drafted
or listed from the puraaNaas; pray, Madhav garoo!, where from did
you get this number eight? Don't veer off and tell us that the number
eight is is more "sanctimonious" than others!
We heard of panca mahaapativrataas, ( or specifically panca kanyaas,
as the compilers of soorya raayaandhra nighanTu vouch for -- ahalyaa
draupadii seetaa taara mamDOdarii@h --)
Before I strangle the 'black' cat, will you please enlighten us with
the other three pativrataas? Or, are the mahaapativrataas different from
the ordinary, run of the mill pativrataas? If so, I must immediately
tell this to my 'fairer half!'
Best.
