     Dear Comrades:

Here is one more from the dEva bhaasha, an embalmed beauty!
It is gorgeous and absolutely 'non-prosaic.' It is composed
in the chandas of my obsession as implied by my 'dearest
detractors,' and as an icing on the cake, it has as much
religion in it as you can digest!

Hope my sins are getting abated and washed off!

This poem has been attributed to a poet by name chaNDaka.
     by kshEmEndra. Date unknown!

     "kRshNEnaamba gatEnarantumadhunaa mRdbhakshitaa swEcchayaa
satyam kRshNa ka Evam aaha musalee mithyaambha pasyaananam
vyaadEheeti vikaasitEtha vadanE dRishTvaa samastam jagat
maataa yasya jagaama vismayapadam paayat sva@h kESava@h."

This is again about the child-god kRshNa. He was growing up
with the cowherders along with balaraama in the house of yaSoda!
And he was as impetuous, and uncaring(?) and proud as any
     small child could be!

Here we go with my transcreation in English. Put up with it!

     Krishna was outside playin'
     In dirt.
     Balarama comes in to complain,
     "Mother, Krishna ate dirt."
     Reproaches, mother Yasoda;
     "Is it true?"

     Krishna, the disdainful
     child counters emphatically:
     "No way! Who said it?"

     "Your brother Balarama," replies mom.

"No! Not at all true!" protests Krishna.

     "Look at my face,
And open your mouth!!" insists Yasoda.

     And, His mouth He opens
     She stands shocked speechless,
     Inside His mouth
     She finds the entire Universe.

     May Lord Krishna protect you!

I recall bits and pieces of a sweet telugu song from a golden-oldie
movie(don't remember the name!), mellifluously rendered by Ghantasala!

     It goes something like this:

"ammaa! tammuDu mannu tinEnu, cooDamma ani raamanna telupagaa
annaa ani cevinulimi yaSOda, yEdannaa nee nOru coopumanagaa
coopitivaTa nee nOTanu baapurE! padunaalgu bhuvana bhaanDammulun..
aa roopamu ganina yaSoda ku ..... etc."

     --- begin digression 1 ---

velcEru naaraayaNa raavu gaaroo! Did I wake you up? With ammaa
     mannu tinEnu.....

     --- end digression 1 ---

     --- begin digression 2 ---

Ain't this funny? The post I had earlier with the subject head,
'pRshThataadanaa ddantabhanga@h Logic,' on July 1, 1997 did start
off, 'raamO naama babhoovaa...' and now this has to begin with,
'kRshNEnaamba.....' If you suspect that this has got some remote
(again, applying the same pRshThataadanaa ddantabhanga@h logic!)
connection with raama-kRshNa; by George! You got it right!

If curious, go back to the telusA archives!

     --- end digression 2 ---

     --- begin digression 3 ---

Apologies! Didn't want to diffuse the thunder and lightning from
the postmortem appraisals and reprisals(?)of the LA-TANA conference!

     --- end digression 3 ---

     Best Regards.
