No. it is not equivalent to patriarchy.
Patriarchy refers to the decition making power of the male in the family
structure.
"purushaadhikya samaajamu" refres to the decition making power of the male in
the social structure. Here the scope is extended to the entire society from the
family. In fact purushaadhikya samaajamu also means a society where male
dominate in number. But the more popular meaning is the former.
[ saakha chankrmaNam on popular meaning of a word.
It is called roodhaardha - a meaning which stuck. Every word has three
kinds of meanings.
1. yOga -> meaning by formation/derivation.
example: jalajamu. ( born in water )
can be a lotus or can be a fish.
2. yOga rooDha -> of several meanings when possible,
the one which becoms popular.
example above. lotus is more popular meaning
of jalajamu.
3. roodha -> meaning which became popular. This need not be
yOga rooDha. Some times an entirely diff. meaning
may become popular, or the word may be ill formed.
For ex: hantakuDu.
The correct formation is hanta.
