Looks like I inadvertently posted my query about the telugu term for
patriarchal (not patriarchical, an overdose of ka-kaaralu there) to
telusa instead of to Sitaramayya garu alone as I meant to. I am sorry
for bothering everyone with yettanudder coppadanTu praSna, but glad
for my sake that I did, since I got some interesting responses.

After looking at the responses, it seems that there is really no
standard term (what does Volga use?). Even though "patriarchal"
and "matriarchal" are, strictly speaking technical terms in feminist
theory, could we, for the purpose of translation, simply borrow
the common expressions "moga pettanam[pu]" and "aaDa pettanam[pu]"
for this purpose? I realize that these terms don't really convey
the idea of a well-rooted, pre-existing tradition which is an
important connotation of "patriarchal".
