Those who want to read good peotry will always read. most of the
avadhanams that being popular now adays contain chodObadda kavita. These
are 'moderners' too! -
By the by -sanskrit is also getting revitalized throughout the nation.
There is one Sankara sastry - who is going all over the world with his
"learn sanskrit in 10- days" -program - he started a powerful movement and
he was in USA last November - He is indeed a greate teacher. He may come
back again - those who want to learn some sankrit should not miss that
chance.

There is notion that lot of sanskrit is used in chandOpadyam -and that
makes it difficult to read. But the fact of the matter is - There is one
book Andhra naama sangraham - I donot know if I have the correct name. It
is like amarakosham - accha telugu synanims - If one reads poems in that I
can bet those who complain about the sanskrit usage will now complain
about the accha tenugu usage since 90% of the telugu words will be out of
touch. If any one has the book they can post some poems from that to show
the taste of pure telugu poems.

I think frankly every poetry lover is a chodOlover - even the socalled
non-chandO peotry also follows its own metrical rules - otherwise you may
call it a prose. See Pillalamarri's comments.

I think branding one as chandOlover and the other non-chandO lover is
actually superficial- The writings will follow certain metrical rules,
either self imposed or standard, to be a poetry.

As Jampaala pointed out the major complaint as I understand - is the use of
some lakshanikaas norms that poets that follow only the stardard common
metrical forms are only come under good poets and others are not.

It is the problem with the lakshanikas and not with the chandO and
non-chandO poetry.

Actually I am not familier with any Lakshanas that define that good poetry
must have standard metrical forms!

So the arguments as I see in the net are misdirected.

May be we should discuss what makes the poetry good. Rather than chandO
and non-chandO peotry since in my definition non-chandO peotry is self
contradictory word. And I donot subscribe to the notion that only poetry
that comes under stardard metrical forms is good poetry. Neither I know of
any lakshana that says that.
