mOsu anTE molaka; mOsu+iDi anna padAniki, "molakanu icci" a la "gave rise
to a new shoot" anna ardhAnni sAdhincavaccA?

(which is in essence what Bh. Krishnamurti garu said - iDu aMTee peTTu,
moos-iDu aMTee ciguLLu peTTu ani arthaM. Bh.K.)

When I read this, I remembered the commentary (or was it in the intro of
the book) on the annamayya kRti "brahma kaDigina pAdamu", in the book
amRtavarshiNi by ivaTUri seetApati rAvu. There he takes the word "pAmiDi"
(in the line pAmiDi turagapau pAdamu - a line that was in some discussion
couple of months ago), derives the meaning (koncemu dUrAnvayam anipincindi)
- one who caused the destruction (paucity) of snakes", meaning garuDa. And
cites it as indicative of the linguistic command of annamayya in coming up
with such a usage.

Also, isn't duvvUri from the nellore region? Do we find usages that are
typical to that region in his poetry? Especially words related to
agri/horti-culture? I am not making a statement here, just posing a
question? With the anticipation of a wealth of answers.

I see a dASarathi poem posted by Bh.Kameswara Rao. Both of these poems are
posted w/o any intro, commentary, etc... It would be nice to see a
paragraph or two as to what prompted the post of a particular poem at a
particular time.

(a personal preference, one that I may not be following myself
consistently! In transliterated telugu would be easier to read if long
words are broken up - as, "veluturu baaku taakiDiki", "jilu-jillanan",
"nava-kumkuma-prabhalu" ...)

In the last line, is that word correct? "Sayinchinavaarinellaran" - meaning
all those are asleep? Isn't it "Sayanincina"

On and off, in posts on this group, I mentioned the name of Dr. Kovela
Sampatkumaracharya, retired telugu professor from Kakatiya University,
Warangal. To quote from a personal mail from someone, "He is one of the
finest scholars of this generation who can move with equal ease in
traditional and modern worlds. In the area of chandassu he is perhaps one
of the two or three living experts.". He is currently in US, visiting his
son in Virginia.

He is quite an engaging speaker. If any group near-by (or far, for that
matter) wishes to invite him for a talk, drop a note to his son at
Skovela@worldbank.org

Let me quote a few poems from two of his short, recent works.
