Though the support (AdhAramu) is given more importance, and at the same
time
the supported (AdhEyaMu) is also considered important, it is called as
"Rhetoric of greatness" (adhikAlaMkAra).
The above example conveys that "The the vAgbrahma (the syllable OM) is
so
great that It was able to include in itself the three basic qualities of
beings in Nature, which are very great!". Here, the "vAgbrahMa"
(syllable OM)
is the support and the three beings in nature are the supported (by
vAbraHma).
Since both are given importance the rhetoric used in the example is
called
as "adhikAlaMkAra".
(Digression) I felt that I should explain the importance of "syllable
OM".
------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
The syllable OM has got two vowels and a consonant sound (telugu) in it.
They are "a u M" .
a = Before we start uttering any sound we open our lips apart and the
sound
that comes out in the beginning is "a". That is why it is called as the
"creation" (sRUsThi). The "satvaguNa" (one of the three basic qualities
of
Nature) is the power behind the creation.
u = When we continue uttering sounds we keep our lips apart and the
sound
comes out of this is "u". So it is called as the "continuance" (sthiti).
The "rajOguNa" is the power behind the continuance.
M = When we choose to stop talking, we keep our lips together. The last
sound that comes out of the mouth is "M". Hence called as "destruction"
(layamu). The "tamOguNa" is responsible for destruction.

(1) The sanskrit sloka is taken from the CaMdrAlOka, supposed to be
written by KaLidAsa.
(2) The telugu translation poem is written by ADidaM soorakavi.
(3) I wrote the notes/explanation by myself. So if anybody wants to
use/quote
any of these articles anywhere please let me know in advance.
