Yes, 'Once upon a time' Sanskrit was a 'spoken' language too!

How much do we know about pre-VSN (to be precise pre-chi.soori) times? Lets 
skip kavitrayam, Srinatha and like and lets just stick to last 150 years.
Surely you 'd have heard of CPBrown and his contributions to Telugu, 
I guess.
