In order to encourage writers in North America, they have announced
a contest for a short story, and poem (gEyam - annAru). There will be two
awards in each category, 1st Prize of $116 and a second prize of $58.

Poems not to exceed 2 such pages.
o Only (hitherto) unpublished writings from residents of North
America (which is what? Mexico, US and Canada. Greenland,

anonymous, and/or sport a nom-de-plume, but they need your
real name, address, and a phone number.
o The judging will be done anonymously (I mean, the Judges will
be publicly exposed! You shall remain anonymous to them) under
the leadership of Dr. Pemmaraju Venugopala Rao of Atlanta.
o Selected entries (not limited to the prize winners) will be
published in the third volume of "amerikA telugu kathAnika".
Poems would be published separately, in a first volume of
"amerikA telugu gEyam".
o We invite all writers in North America to participate in this
endeavour. Please spread the word to others you know, and
encourage them. (How do I do this, you may say. You could
invite them for dinner, to reduce their work. You can baby-sit
for them. Offer to "scribe" for them. It is upto you)
o Last date for receipt of entries: dhAta nAma samvatsara,
ugAdi, March 20, 1996 (which would mean it is Suddha pAdyami)
