I understand people concern to feminism and their concern to preserve and/or
enhance respect for it.

I do not understand why we should drag rambha & co into comparison.
I do not how know calling them nymphomaniacs whould enhance or protect respect
for feminism.

If you must hate rmabha and her friends, you are free to do so. But there is no
occation to call them names!

That they would get into to bed with any Tom, Dick and Harry is not at all
true.
I am glad you quoted Varoodhini. She fancied Mr. pravara. Then ofcourse after
he
rejected her, some opertunistic gandharva has deceived her. Where is the need
for
a deception if she would cheerfully allow any T, D & H into bed with her? It
all
happened because she had turned his proposal to her. Is in not? So does not it
go
to prove that these so called cheep-girls in your opinion at least have got
their
individualities of their own and have their right and might to turn unwanted
persons
out even if they belonged to their own race and class? And that they have
their own
freedom to select their friends and partners irrespective of the fact they
were/are
mere mortals and inferior to them is not a fact to be ignored by the so called
feminists - at least in my opinion. Is it not a point? There are several more
of
these examples where the behaviors of the dancing-girls of the devince court
have
displayed their own individuality by their actions.

I will narrate another story. puroorava and uuravaSi loved each other. But as
puroorava
proposed the marriage, uurvasi, the so called dancing girl had laid down a
condition.
You know what? She would leave him any time once for all if he were to ever
step aside
from the path of dharma. After a long time, one day , as they were camping in
a forest
site, he refused to leave here presence to go and protect cows form theives.
uurvaSi
promptly advised him of his duties, and left him immediately. What does this
tell us?
Do you under stand that she is not merely a damsel and well learned and wise
woman
who is not a sex maniac. Another version says that puroorava left her resence
without
decent dress. She did not aprove of his indecent exposure and left him. What
ever be
the story line, one thing is certain. She is not a nymphomaniac.

More importanttly the above story is not yet over. After puroorava finally
managed
see her to seek her hand again, she took him as a deciple and teached him
"brahma
~jnanam".

The "tArA-SaSAmkam" has an astronomical explanation. It may true that several
of the
stories of purANAs are symbolic writings. For a full insight into the sAvitri's
story we may have to read Sri arabindO's book.

May be I am quoting from purANas, and alas most modern viewd thinkers of today
may
decree them as pure nonsence. Just either because they were educated by our
modern
education and/or by many to-days ism's which vehimently oppose any thing that
is
traditional material.

One important point I constantly observe is that one can decreee any thing
traditional
and feel above critism but none who critisize any thing that goes with one ism
or other
(modern isms I mean ), and live bomb proof for a day.

What a pity!

Now as for Tom Dick and Harry proverb. Long back Deccan Chronicle, the popular
daily from Hyderabad has adapted it. The actual usage may be "every ellayya,
pullayaa and mallayya can not aspire to become a CM."

As for feminism, I do not wish to offer any comments on the subject at this
juncture.
But 'hate' is not a cure for any ailment. 'hate' leads us nowhere, even if we
think
that it is justified hatred ( even if there is one. )

Regards.
Syamala Rao Tadigadapa.
