"AyOni" was written by Volga to express sorrow and disgust at reports of
sexual harassment of little children.
In the postscript to the story published in May 1994, she said the
following: "This story is dedicated to Swetha, the little girl we all
came to know, to all the little girls in Hyderabad who died in the city
during the last month following sexual abuse, and to the little girls
all over the world who are victims of the sex trade."
