There is a whole series of children's casettes produced by the Andhra
Pradesh Baalala Akademi in Hyderabad (they are located in the Public
Gardens, I believe), one of which is called "laali paatalu". It is quite
nice. The other casettes have many of the traditional children's songs
such as chandamama raave, tappetlOy, tALAlOy, etc. (yes, Chowdary gaaru,
including kalavaari kOdalu) plus some for slightly older children called
"gEya nAtikalu" and "aBinaya gItAlu". They also have one called "dEsa
Bakti gItAlu" which includes songs like "jaya jaya jaya priya Barati"
and "E dEsamEginA", dEsamunu prEmincumannA, etc. There are some story
casettes as well. Each casette has an associated book that goes along
with it. They also publish many children's books which are targeted for
the very young (toddler age) with good pictures and production values--
something that is very hard to find with commercial publishers. I am
saddened that apparently no one here has heard of them.
So, for the original requester, it would be a lot simpler to buy (or have
someone buy and send you) the complete set of casettes for your children,
as these contain quite a wealth of "telugu culture", rather than try to
produce casettes locally. On the general question of exposing children to
the Telugu language, perhaps it's a heretical remark, but isn't the best
way to have the parents talk to them in that language?
