A lot of songs for Telugu Children are either direct Folk Songs or Folk
Literature-based songs. The authors of these folk songs are not known and
probably they don't have one such. Nobody knows when they were written. These
songs were propagated through singing only. These songs have a typical style,
the folk style and reflect the society and social customs. Above all these folk
songs are easy to sing i.e. singability. These characteristic features were
presented by Dr. Birudaraju Ramaraju.

Dr. Velcheru Narayana Rao came up with another set of (5) salient features of
these songs in his thesis (telugu kavitA viplavAla svarUpaM) - (1) each line is
a unit; (2) a special architectural way of constructing each line; (3)
refrain (a phrase, verse, or verses repeated at intervals in a song or poem
after each stanza)[punarukti]; (4) lack of conversation; (5) no novelty in the
story.

If hundreds of these songs appear in black and white in books, several thousands
of them, which have been propagated from person to person and disappearing are
in thousands.

Recently several writers wrote wonderful songs for children which have been very
popular.

According to Velaga Venkatappayya, the classification (schematic)

Unfortunately several of the story-songs for children have not been published.
For that matter, several proverbs for children have not been published. Upto
some extent the riddles have been documented and published.

Velaga Vemkatappayya collected about 500 children's songs and 3000 riddles and
finally published the book on riddles in his book "rAyalasIma palukubaDulu",
which contains the proverbs, riddles etc. This is another book worth reading.

Remember that song while mother was feeding the child:

  annaM beTTi appa beTTi
  appaDaM peTTi dappaDaM beTTi
  kUra beTTi nAra beTTi
  gAre beTTi bUre beTTi
  pAlu bOsi paramAnnaM bOsi

  mA abbAyi attavAriMTlO lEdaMTE
tALalla nuMci taMgeLLa nuMci adE tOva adE tOva cakkali gili.

Mother often enjoys tickling the child and child in turn enjoys that too.
While singing the first five lines, the mother counts the 5 fingers. While
singing the sixth line, the mother draws line in the palm. Beginning with the
8th line, the mother starts tickling the baby.
