namastE !
One observation made by Sri Hari Krishna, reminded me of something I noticed
recently (not for the first time though !).
In a film song compilation I borrowed from a friend I heard P Suseela sing
"malle teega vanTidi maguva ..." and a couple of songs later
^^^^^^
"veeNa lOnaa teege lOnaa ..." . Are they different words ?! (I dont think so).
^^^^^
I was left wondering if it was due to the poets of the respective songs being
from different places (I dont know that for a fact).
( as an aside I was also wondering how much control a film song writer has over
the way his/her song is sung by the singer? )
On another occasion I heard one of my friends, whose "native place" is some place
in the Godavari districts, use the pronunciation "nooni" for oil (I am used to
it being pronounced as "noone")! Is it really a maanDalikam issue or is it just
the idiosyncracies of some people ?!
Another such feature of telugu words is the use of 'l' and 'n' interchangeably
in words such as munaga ceTTu etc.. This is considered by some as the reason we
have the words telugu and tenugu!
wondering at the wonder of words,
Sankaram
