The sun had set, it was my night off bartending at KT's, and I was in
the mood for some friendly telugu companionship. So, there I was
strolling to MC's comic joint when I heard loud voices coming from
Vasu's bungalow, so I went over, all smiles, to say howdy.

Over the door was a neat little note: "pAta candamAma kathalu"

The noise suddenly stopped as I entered the living room, for a moment, I
could hear a couple of guests saying "Hi". The conversations continued
as usual.

"'twas rAthi ratham"
      "I think it's rAkAsi_lOya!"
"Wrong. That's SidhilAlayam, to be precise"
Ramakrishna "I can't believe I forgot the name!"

It came over, as I made myself comfortable, that it's my _turn_ now. Or
something similar to that. So, without hesitation, I began:

"My favorite story, that I vaguely remember even today, is called
_pUrIla SAsanam_. This is a story of a poor brahmin whose scholarship
made him famous at the king's darbAr. Everytime the king passed an
order, to the local jamindar of course, which is written and signed by
the king on a copper leaflet, to award land or cattle to the poor
brahmin, the jamindar used to beat up the brahmin to pulp and then ask
him to eat the copper leaflet. Unable to bear the pain, the brahmin
asks the king not to write the "orders" on copper leaflets. He tells him
that he'd prefer "pUrI"s instead, which are easy to swallow. An
intrigued king soon finds out what happened to his previous orders and
does the needful at the end."
