Hello Friends,
I am posting (with the author's permission) to Telusa
Sree Jagadish Bisa's follow-up to
my post titled Telugus Writing in English.
This appeared on SCIT yesterday. I find it interesting and i believe that
those of you who are not SCIT-regulars will enjoy it too!

This brings up an interesting question. Why people write, at all?I
personally feel that it's mainly due to an irresistible desire to
communicate. Communicate with whom? The answer to this
question primarily determines, quite obviously, the medium of
communication.
Apart from the above primary reason, there are several simple
pleasures of creative writing, that forces a writer to keep writing.
The delight of knowing just how it'll work, feeling the right
structure, finding the right word, the pride and the relief. Even the
negative feelings are quite compelling too -- the blank page,
the confused plot, the very idea that rearranging it somehow,
fundamentally, will probably solve everything. But how? etc.
As long as the medium suits your target audience, and as long as
one can derive the above mentioned simple pleasures of creative
writing through that medium, one keeps writing in that medium.
Therefore, I can give two reasons for why we don't see quite a few
Telugus writing in English. Just like this news group (SCIT),
sadly , many of us have liittle desire to communicate with people
other than ourselves. Secondly, our language is rich enough to
provide the above mentioned simple pleasures of creative writing.
Hence, the smiley on the subject line is inappropriate, given that
there's nothing to smile about either way!
I do hope that the situation will change, sooner or later.
Until then please remove that smiley from the subject line.
-Jagdish ( 'cause if you don't, I will! ) Bisa.
