If it is just a question of publishing a directory from which all
non-Hindi scholars are excluded, the problem may be isolated
and a solution like inclusion of all Indian scholars or alternate
ways of publishing a directory may be sought. But this is just a
tip of the iceberg. Hindi has been imposedon all non-Hindi states
in a way that is way beyond dignity and respect for fellow citizens.
In spite of the advantages fo learning Hindi (which are limited
anyway), this imposition always assumes an air of authority and
gross neglect of the feelings of the locals. It may not be even
politically correct to hurt the feelings of e.g., telugus or tamilians
but who cares?
Look at all the sign boards in Hindi that show up in Govt buildings
in South whenever the law (=Hindi) enforcing authorities visit from
the center.
