"prayOgam" (rAjakIya kathalu, Vol. 2) by OlgA
mAnavi pracuraNalu

i bought this book last december without knowing
what was in there. after i read some of the stories,
especially, "prayOgam" and "coca-cola", i started to
understand what it was all about. here is a writer,
with her own strong political convictions, not coloured
by any particular ideology. i liked the clarity of
thought and the conviction with which the ideas were
presented.

the story "prayOgam" was about the system of marriages.
OlgA presented her view of the "vivAha vyavastha" - portraying
its short comings. infact, i succeeded in making my grandmother
read the story and say that it was a true portrayal!

"Coca-Cola" was about MNCs coming back to india --
how the economic needs of the developing countries
are sacrificed for the needs of MNCs. how fertile lands
were turned into waste lands by grazing cattle to serve
the needs of large companies.

one may not agree with the political views presented
in these stories but as good stories would do, they
initiate a revision of one's own beliefs.
