I just requested a list of current subscribers and felt quite happy
to see these two entries in it. I sent the introducing message to
Syamala Rao, and it looks like he joined. If Ratnakar 'included'
Narayana Rao, good. If he himself joined hearing about this from
others, even better!

If you go to India, and if Telugu & US Universities are mentioned in
one sentence, Velceru Narayana Rao's name comes up among the informed
circles. But for a long time, I have had a question as to why he is
not that visible in this country, except perhaps at biennial conventions
(sometimes), and in an occasional souvenir. I saw him in '83 in
Washington, and at the last TANA convention in Chicago. I hope we get
to benefit from his presence here.

I heard that he has developed some course material for learning
Telugu. Perhaps that would be quite useful for our children (roughly
half of the current membership have children, who are of an age that
can use this) and our acquaintances, perhaps other Indians even.

Syamala Rao burst on the scene perhaps six months ago, viSlEshaNing
the famous poem in Amukta mALyada, (Rao, I remember the poem, here it is:

tala paksha cchaTa grucci bAtuvulu kEdArampu kulyAntara-
sthali nidrimpaga jUci, yArekulusha snAta prayAta dwijA-
vali pinDeekRta SaTuvulsavi dadAvAsambu jErpanga, rE-
vula Diggan, vesa pAru vABi gani navvun, SAli gOpyoughamul)

and carried on that vein for a few weeks, just a handful.

Than he disappeared. I guess like Suresh, he couldn't stand the heat
Phoenix. Jumped the ship and tied his fortunes to Oracle. Is he in the
bay area? Perhaps. I wish him to prosper just as Oracle seems to be doing.

A request to either of these two people, or for that matter, to any body
else. I need the text for the other famous poem in AM,

toli nuli vecca yOgiramu, tiyyani cArulu, ...

Misplaced the book. This is being requested for a 'friend'. nijamgA!

A question for Ratnakar. Why are there two instances of him in the group?
