(1) Involve telugu associations in maintaining libraries, where each
assn contributes some material and everyone has access to the whole
collection.
- Lot of us seem to distrust telugu associations, our own sincerity
and promptness in responding to a request, are wary of financial
aspects involved, etc.
Similar objections also seem to plague the idea of a private group
of people exchanging books, unless all of those involved are prior
friends/acquiantances.
(2) Contribute books to our local libraries so the telugu community has
access to them.
+ Libraries can take good care of the books. Security guaranteed.
+ Telugu assns. can be asked to donate money to buy such books,
- because not many of us would be willing to give up our personal
collections.
- The collection will be very local. It is likely that literature
enthusiasts in a given geographic area tend to know each
other, so this doesn't really seem to serve the intended purpose.
(3) Start an electronic magazine on the web that is devoted to literature.
- Technicalities are probably going to take a while to work out.
- Can we expect to work out an arrangement for funneling articles
from AP?
+ A _good_ _long_ term solution. Imagine the joy of reading a
literary magazine month after month.....
(4) A kick-off project with short stories from various sources,
like timed-out copyright stuff, maybe even excerpts.
+ Limited scope and well-defined set. Technicalities are simple.
+ Will allow us to explore the future possbilities/avenues.
- Has to be expanded to other forms of literature very soon, else
will risk losing interest.
- May not be a real library for a long time.
(5) A web page devoted to Telugu Literature, with more of a guided tour
motif.
+ Will help interested beginners. May initiate more people.
+ Will form a seed for varied collections of classic literature.
+ Simple to organize and append to.
- May very soon become disorganized and noisy.
- Therefore will need a strict and knowledgible editor.
I apologize if I have missed any other points made. We need to channel our
interest and enthusiasm to a couple of projects that have good chance of
success. It seems to me that we must not expect immediate returns (like
reading a book for ourselves would give), but keep in mind that we have
to make an investment (and more importantly, a beginning) for projects
of this nature.
I am willing to volunteer for any piece of work involved with one or
more of these. I am just not sure when my volunteer-ship can begin...;-)
