You must have been kidding when you said much of the telugu poetry was
written only after 15 or 16 century !! In fact, it may be right to say
that there were not (m)any significant contributions to telugu literature
after 16 century, until the advent of modern literary movememts heralded
by raayaprOlu and gurajaaDa.
Although, I myself do not know any references to boochula rEDu in telugu
poetry, I don't see a reason not to believe Prof. Narayana Rao when he said
the usage of boochula rEDu was found in telugu much before the entry of
portugese into the telugu land.
Ah, thanks PALAKA for your reference on Rao and Pant. As I admitted, my
speculation on those words was based on my adhoc rationalization. As
Baparao said these words may still be shown to be cognate form of raayaDu
and paNDitulu.

Suresh.
