Telusa and SCIT are abstract entities which exist only as bits in the
computers all over the world. The question I would be concerned is
what do we gain/lose by trying to save SCIT. We are the same set of
people whether we communicate through SCIT, telusa, or SCIT.moderated.
Let me explain why I think it will not be of much help to pump telusa articles
into SCIT. The crossposting to the regional newsgroups started ( correct me if
I am wrong) because of the perception that others are unnecessarily meddling
in the newsgroup soc.culture.punjab. As Aravinda already pointed out those
who are crossposting to SCIT care least what else is being posted to SCIT.
They'll continue to post all the irrelevant junk they are posting now.
Let us say the ratio of Telugu vs non Telugu postings in SCIT 1:10. If
we start pumping telusa articles to SCIT it might go up to something like
4:6. That will certainly make SCIT better, but the moment we stop it will
be back to square one. We need to consider whether we can sustain pumping
articles into SCIT for long time. After all, we don't want display only
aarambha shooratvam:-)
Here are the advatages/disadvantages of the different forums as I see it.
SCIT
----
Advantages: Open to everbody, Easy for new people to join, Articles
appear without any delay
Disadvantages: The very openness causes people to behave rudely,
Disgruntled netters can start posting irrlevant junk
Telusa
------
Advantages: More civil behavior is encouraged, no scope for
irrelevant junk
Disadvantages: Difficult to make it available to everybody,
The group has grown so big that it is beginning to flood
the mailboxes of the recipients
SCIT.moderated
--------------
Advantages: Irrelevant junk can be cut out. People will be encouraged
to behave in a more civil manner
Disadvantages: Articles appear with a delay. It requires some patient
soul to go through the articles laboriusly and verify that
article belongs in the newsgroup. A possible perception
of highhandedness and censorship
