May be the same situation with Folk Art forms in other indian languages too.
I do not know.

Every thing is getting distroyed as the monster `money' is becoming the
guiding priciple of life, replacing the values of `cultural heritage'
which used to guide the life styles of peoples.

Let me tell you an example.

May be a three years back, my brother from Kakinada who was visiting me
in Hyderabad has told me this strange thing.

Thre was a `burra katha' program on the occation of ganapathi navaraatri
celebrations at one strre corner in Kakinada.

Guess how many attended? only THREE. Yes THREE persons only!

Of course at other places, audience were being shwon cenemas on 16mm screen.

Deeply hurt, but resolute to do justic to the money they have taken
from the organizers, the burra katha dalam, the three of them went
on to stage and ran the show for some time before, some body came
and told them enough was enough.

PS: Regarding Fold Songs, I remember chintaa deekshitulu as a
name often heard in this connection.
