This is "fortunately" one area in "telugu saahityam" (may I classify the
"jaanapadagEyaalu" under "saahityam"?), which is reasonably well studies in
the past 3 decades. Its not true that these songs are not available in
"print". They are available. You may like to refer to the thick volumes of
Sree birudaraaju raamaraaju's works. The vinjamoori sisters (seeta and
anasooya) have published extensively on this topic. In addition they cut
innumerable dics, and recorded at AIR. As one coming from Tenali area, I am
only acquainted with AIR, vijayawaaDa's programmes, and can say that they
have superb collection of "jaanapada geetaalu" in their archives, which are
often played. I have two of the following three songs (sung by Vinjamoori
sisters). anasooya wrote seven books to my knowledge (peLLi paaTalu, streela
paaTalu, etc.), and seeta's Ph.D thesis (Madras Univ. early 50s?) was
published by Higginbothams (madras) people in mid-80s. You are fortunate to be
in USA, where all these books can be borrowed per inter-library loan.

PALANAgaaru! Do you have the lyrics for the above songs off-hand?
B.raamaraaju's book must be having them, if not one of anasooya's books.

FYI, there are atleast half a dozen Ph.D thesis works, and many other books
(u.a naayani kRshNakumaari, jaanaki, ...) on this topic specialising the
songs of particular reasons.
