Thanks for the informative message! In 1986 I attended a function in Madras,
commemorating penDyaala's death anniversary, and many people talked about
this song and the above mentioned recording technique on that day. Another
highly quoted song was "neeli mEghaalalO gaali keraTaalalO ..". But its
widely believed that in 'Siva Sankaree' `there is more than one voice
involved in it'. Time to pursue this matter further!

Coming back to the function I attended, its an unforgettable event.
It started around 2:00PM and went till 10:00PM. I still remember
watching a film on 16mm screen with a few scenes from "drOhi" (1948,
penDyaala's first.). Wish the film is preserved! Excepting bhaanumati
ALL the play-back singers of Telugu film were presented on one stage.
Even saaloori and baalasaraswati were there on that day, singing songs.
The day is something special to me, meeting VAK Rangarao personally ......

[The lyrics are available. I am n't sure if its already put on home
page. Otherwise please send a mail to kRshNa kandaaDai or me.]

SreeSree writes in length about this song, acknowledging the verses from
karuNaSree, pOtana's bhaagavatam and traditional verse (rendered by the
artists in harikathalu), in his _paadavOyi bhaarateeyuDaa_. How many did/do
that?

One of the best "harikatha"-s in Telugu films is G's "Sreelu celangE
bhaarata bhoomini ...... - Sibi cakravarti katha" in Vijaya's _shaavukaaru_,
1950.
